Kevin McIntyre and Michelle Singletary McIntyre have been married for almost 25 years. Together they serve as leaders of "Prosperity Partners Ministry," an 11-month financial program founded at their home church, First Baptist Church of Glenarden (FBCG). Michelle is the director and Kevin is the assistant director.
Kevin and Michelle lead monthly workshops on various financial topics, including dealing with entitlement, merging money with your spouse and getting out debt. A key part of the ministry includes training women and men, who handle their money well, to mentor others who are having financial challenges. As part this ministry, Kevin and Michelle also volunteer teach financial literacy classes to prison inmates.
At FBCG's The Institutes, which provides biblically based and continuing education classes, Kevin and Michelle teach a class called "Mastering Money In your Marriage." Kevin and Michelle are active in several other ministries at their church.
In 2010, Michelle was named Ministry Leader of the Year at First Baptist Church of Glenarden, one of the largest churches in Prince George's County, for her direction of Prosperity Partners and prison volunteer work.
Kevin, a trained mechanical engineer, spent the early part of his career working for Babcock & Wilcox, Naval Nuclear Fuels Division in Lynchburg, Virginia. He started working for the federal government in 1993. He spent several years working for National Institute of Standards & Technology (NIST), U.S. Department of Commerce in Gaithersburg, Maryland. Kevin won the Commerce Department's Bronze Medal Award for outstanding government service.
He was an examiner and team mentor for the U.S. Senate Productivity and Maryland Performance Excellence Awards Program, which utilizes the principles of NIST's Malcolm Baldridge National Quality Award. He is currently the director of the Financial Accounting and Services Division Bureau of the Fiscal Service for the U.S. Department of the Treasury.
Michelle is a nationally syndicated personal finance columnist for The Washington Post. Her column, "The Color of Money" is an award-winning column, which is now carried in about 100 newspapers across the country. She is the author of three books, "The 21 Day Financial Fast: Your Path to Financial Peace and Free" "Spend Well, Live Rich: How to Live Well With the Money You Have" (Random House) and "Your Money and Your Man: How You and Prince Charming Can Spend Well and Live Rich" (Random House).
In January 2012, Singletary was part of the cast for "The Revolution," a daytime program on ABC. She was the show's financial expert and did regular money segments. For two years Singletary was host of her own national television program "Singletary Says" on TV One, owned by Radio One and Comcast. In 2011, "Spend Well, Live Rich with Michelle Singletary," premiered on the PBS station WNED-TV Buffalo/Toronto.
For several years, Singletary was a regular personal finance contributor for National Public Radio's afternoon program "Day To Day." She is also a frequent contributor to various NPR programs including American Public Media's "Marketplace Money." She has appeared on all three major networks, NBC, ABC and CBS. She has prepared personal finance segments for local and national news programs, and for a number of cable and nationally syndicated programs, including "Oprah," NBC's "Today Show," "The Early Show on CBS," CNN, MSNBC, "The View, and "Tavis Smiley" on PBS. She has also appeared on "Meet The Press."
Both Kevin and Michelle are graduates of the University of Maryland at College Park. Kevin earned an Executive MBA from George Washington University. Michelle earned a master's degree in business management from Johns Hopkins University. They reside in Maryland with their three children.
